Arsenal currently sit fifth in their Champions League group with six points from two matches. The Gunners kicked off their campaign with a 2-0 victory away at Athletic Bilbao, followed by another 2-0 win at home against Olympiacos. While Mikel Arteta’s side haven’t always dazzled with their performances, they’ve been remarkably efficient, winning seven of their last eight games and drawing the other. Over the weekend, Arsenal secured a gritty 1-0 win at Fulham, courtesy of a goal from Leandro Trossard.
At home, Arsenal remain unbeaten this season, with four wins and one draw from five matches across all competitions. Last season, they lost just once at home in the Champions League—a narrow 1-0 defeat to eventual champions PSG. Overall, Arsenal’s Champions League record last season was impressive, with nine wins, two draws, and three losses from 14 games. Defensively, they’ve been solid at the Emirates this season, conceding only once—against Erling Haaland—and keeping four clean sheets in their last five outings.
Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, are tenth in the group with three points from two games. Diego Simeone’s team began with a 3-2 loss at Liverpool but bounced back emphatically with a 5-1 thrashing of Eintracht Frankfurt. Domestically, Atletico are fourth in La Liga, collecting 16 points from nine matches and arriving in good form with four wins from their last five games. However, their away record is less impressive, with three draws and one defeat in four road games across all competitions.
Arsenal are enjoying a strong run at the moment. While their style may not always be the most entertaining, their effectiveness is undeniable. The Emirates has become one of Europe’s most formidable venues, and given Atletico’s struggles away from home—particularly their defeat at Anfield—it’s difficult to see them coming away with a result in North London this week.
