South Korea has taken a tough decision and banned carrying smartphones in classrooms. This decision will be implemented across the country from March next year.
The growing smartphone addiction among school-going students is becoming worrisome. In view of this, Australia had banned social media for teenagers some time ago. Now South Korea has also taken a similar decision and banned carrying mobile phones and digital devices in classrooms. This decision will be implemented in schools across the country. The leaders here say that social media addiction among the youth is taking the form of a big crisis.
The decision will be implemented from next year
This decision, passed by the Parliament of South Korea on Wednesday, will come into effect from March next year. Cho Jung-hun, the leader who proposed this rule, said that children keep running Instagram and TikTok till late at night. Every morning their eyes are red and they stay on Instagram till 2-3 o'clock at night. Earlier, such decisions have been implemented in Australia and Netherlands as well. After the decision in Netherlands, the focus of students has improved.
These problems were seen in students
98 percent of the population of South Korea has a smartphone and about 99 percent of the population here uses the Internet. Last year, the Ministry of Education here conducted a survey. In this, 37 percent of middle and high school students said that social media is affecting their daily life. 22 percent of the students who participated in the survey said that when they do not access social media, they start getting anxious. Due to this, smartphones were already banned in many schools and now this rule has been implemented in schools across the country. However, disabled children have not been included in this rule. Also, there is no ban on the use of smartphones for study purposes.
