Winter has arrived, and as temperatures drop, the most common kitchen problem is gas cylinder pressure. Sometimes, the gas doesn't flow properly or the flame weakens, making cooking difficult.
Gas freezing occurs during winter because the LPG pressure decreases as temperatures drop. This reduces the flow of gas from the regulator. To correct this, you should maintain a normal temperature around the cylinder.
In winter, people often try to heat the cylinder to get gas faster, which is a major mistake. Placing the cylinder in hot water or placing it near a fire can be extremely dangerous. This suddenly increases the gas pressure and poses a risk of an accident.
An easy way is to keep the cylinder in the kitchen or any other enclosed space where cold air doesn't reach directly. You can also place a layer of wood or thick cardboard underneath the cylinder to prevent it from being affected by the cold below. This ensures a stable flow of gas.
Never pour hot water on the cylinder or expose it to direct sunlight. If gas isn't flowing properly, remove the regulator slightly and refit it. This often restores gas pressure. Don't try anything else yourself.
If the problem persists, contact the gas agency. A technician can accurately determine whether the problem is with the regulator or the pipes. Trying to fix it yourself could land you in trouble, so avoid doing so.
A little caution is enough for proper gas use during winter. Keep the cylinder out of the cold. Install the regulator correctly, and don't follow any uninformed advice. A little common sense will not only prevent problems but also keep you safe.
