Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said that he has instructed the Director General of Police to closely monitor social media after a section of people were allegedly seen either welcoming or posting happy emojis after the terrorist attack in Delhi.
Sarma while talking to media persons at Raha in Nagaon district said that the police is going to be strict against these people and if necessary, arrests will be made. "Since last night, some people have been either welcoming the Delhi attack on social media or reacting to the attack with happy emojis. This implies that they are supporting the terrorist activities," Sarma said.
"I have already instructed the DGP to monitor and verify the backgrounds of these people. If needed they will be arrested," he said.
Sarma said that the fact that there is recovery of huge explosives indicates that there were larger designs to disturb the peace. He said that the people of the country must be united to ensure that terrorism cannot raise its head again. He expressed happiness over the pace that the central agencies have been carrying out the investigation and said that things will be clearer by Tuesday evening.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (N.F. Railway) has intensified security arrangements across all railway stations and onboard trains to ensure the safety and security of passengers and railway property.
In view of recent security concerns, alerts have been issued to all RPF units and additional deployment of RPF personnel has been made at sensitive and vulnerable locations throughout the zone. Dog squads have been mobilized to assist in security operations and intensive anti-sabotage checks are being carried out at stations, railway premises and onboard trains.Monitoring through CCTV surveillance systems has been strengthened, with round-the-clock observation of station premises and platforms. RPF personnel are maintaining heightened vigilance to detect and prevent any suspicious activities or unattended objects.
The RPF is also closely coordinating with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and other security agencies to ensure seamless information sharing and effective joint action wherever required.
