N. F. Railway is committed to ensuring the safety and comfort of its passengers throughout their journey. To achieve this, it continues to modernize and upgrade its infrastructure in line with the highest safety and convenience standards. As part of Indian Railways’ modernization initiative, NFR has undertaken the conversion of conventional ICF coaches to state-of-the-art Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches across its network. These advanced LHB coaches come equipped with cutting-edge safety features such as Fire and Smoke Detection System (FSDS), Fire Detection and Suppression System (FDSS) and Aerosol-based Fire Detection Systems, ensuring enhanced passenger security.
A total of 1223 LHB AC coaches have been fitted with FSDS, while 148 power cars and 79 pantry cars are equipped with FDSS. Additionally, 956 AC coaches have been provided with Aerosol-based Fire Detection Systems. These fire detection systems continuously monitor critical areas within train coaches to identify any potential fire incidents and promptly raise alarms for timely intervention. Early and accurate detection not only helps prevent panic and injuries but also minimizes loss of life and property, reducing disruptions to train services. To further strengthen fire safety, all power cars, pantry cars and AC coaches are being equipped with appropriate fire protection systems in a phased manner.
Improving rail safety is an ongoing process and continuous efforts are made to enhance it. In addition to conducting regular safety drives, periodic Safety Audits and inspections are carried out on railway infrastructure to identify vulnerabilities in asset maintenance, safety procedures and systemic gaps. These assessments help in implementing effective measures to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure safer train operations. N. F. Railway remains deeply committed to ensuring the highest levels of safety across its network.
