Canelo Alvarez is ready to roll back the years against Terence Crawford.
Alvarez has not won a fight by stoppage since 2021 when he flattened Caleb Plant in the 11th round. The Mexican has often been met by opponents who have been more interested in hearing the final bell than in winning.
But in Crawford, Alvarez sees an opponent who can bring out his old style. "I don't need it with that kind of fighters," he said when . "They are they are slower than me, so I don't need to start moving or keep moving if I know I don't need to. If I don't need to do something why I'm going to do it? If I need it I'm going to do it.
"I've not needed to avoid punches that much, right? But when a fighter is fast and throws a lot of punches and and everything... I'm going to need it against Crawford for sure - and you will see."

Alvarez has long been one of boxing's biggest stars but appreciates the magnitude of Saturday's fight. "I'm just feel grateful to them because they have supported me since day one," he said. "I just want to let them enjoy another victory for Mexico."
"It's big. If I'm not wrong it's the biggest fight in boxing now because of everything. It's Netflix. It's Mexico versus an American. It's a very huge fight and I like to be involved in huge fights. I'm glad to be here and I'm ready."
Crawford was booed earlier in the week when he arrived in Sin City, but insists he is ready to play the role of the underdog. "I've been in hostile territory before. This is nothing new for me," he said. "They can't fight for him.
"Canelo is very experienced. I'm very experienced as well. The best man is going to win," he said, adding that his footwork and speed could be decisive.
"It definitely would be the highlight of my career, the biggest win of my career by far. It's legacy, it's becoming the first male boxer to become undisputed in three weight classes. It's all of it. They're going to be saying that I'm the greatest of this generation and this era."
