'I moved into new flat and couldn't believe nasty note taped to my door'

A couple were left flabbergasted at the welcome they received upon moving into their brand new apartmentfor a fresh start. The man explained that he and his partner were excited for this "new chapter" of their lives. They had been moving things in all day, even being offered help by some of the neighbours. However, when they saw the devastating note, it left them feeling cold.

The resident told Reddit users: "To give some context, we began moving small things in around 2pm. We would do a trip at a time from the car to the apartment without leaving any boxes, containers or anything in hallways and common areas. From 2pm - 4pm we ran into two people on the elevator and both were super nice, welcomed us to the building and wished us good luck with the move."

But when they came back home from dinner to the note, they were left second-guessing themselves and wondering what they'd done wrong.

The mean note accused the pair of "interrupting" the lives of all the neighbours on "day one". It also said they'd been "disrespectfully slamming" doors, when they were simply just moving their belongings.

The passive aggressive note said that "noise will not be tolerated" – even though the cruel neighbour hadn't really given them a chance. It even threatened them with "eviction" if they carried on being noisy.

They'd paid "good money" to avoid "disrespectful renters," urging them to "read over your booklet of rules". Ending the note with one word, they said: "Enough!"

The man continued to explain what they'd done, writing: "The only other thing we moved was our mattress around 6:30pm and again we didn’t see anyone on the elevator or halls.

"However, we did notice a woman, probably in her late 60s, on her balcony 5 units down staring right into our unit. We closed the blinds and she quickly went inside.

"When we left, we noticed her staring at us from the window. If I had to guess who wrote that letter, my money would be on her, but I have no idea what she is basing these claims on. We don’t even walk past her unit when we take the elevator."

He'd chatted to the building manager and they said they'd done "nothing wrong", referring to the note as "borderline harassment". What's more, the management company had been "very apologetic" about the situation.

However, it still put a real downer on the exciting life milestone. The Redditor added: "I’m just upset that it really put a dampener on what was otherwise a very special day for me and my girlfriend."

People commented saying that it was a "s***" situation, praising them for contacting their management company about the note.

One suggested: "Get a doorbell camera. People are less ballsy to put notes if they know they’re on camera."

Meanwhile, another urged them to keep the letter – "just in case things continue to escalate" further.
