Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund have same response to Benjamin Sesko transfer

Send Push

Joshua Zirkzee has joined Rasmus Hojlund in liking a social media post confirming that Benjamin Sesko is poised to complete a big-money transfer to Manchester United imminently.

The Red Devils have already significant bolstered their attack by wrapping up deals for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo this summer. And it emerged at the end of last month that United had identified Sesko as their primary No 9 target ahead of the new Premier League season.

Sesko, 22, has had no shortage of suitors this summer, with Arsenal and Newcastle also admirers of the Slovenia international.

But United have won the race for Sesko's signature after agreeing a deal worth just shy of £73million including add-ons for the RB Leipzig man.

News of said agreement broke on Thursday afternoon with Sesko set to complete his move before the weekend. And some of his new team-mates have already responded to the news.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted that Hojlund had liked a social media post confirming that Sesko was on his way to Old Trafford. And it has since emerged that Zirkzee has followed suit.

Both players struggled for goals last season, hence United's bid to add more firepower to their squad in the summer transfer window.

In total, United registered just 44 goals in the Premier League across 38 games as they recorded their lowest ever finish in 15th place. Only Everton and the three relegated teams - Southampton, Ipswich Town and Leicester - scored less.

Manchester United's pursuit of Sesko has fuelled speculation that Hojlund could be sold. But the Dane insisted he wants to stay and fight for his place in the team during the club's recent pre-season tour.

"I think my plan is very clear and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens," he said. "I'm still very young. I think people forget that sometimes. I'm only 22. Obviously, not every striker is scoring 100 goals at the age of 22 (like Erling Haaland).

"But I've learned a lot, I think you can see in my game. I'm starting to develop and become even better in the basics. Now it's just about for me to sharpen myself and I've done very well in the pre-season so far. Just focusing on continuing that.

"Competition is fine with me. It sharpens me. I'm more than ready. I'm feeling sharp, so I'm welcoming everything that comes. I think it's good with competition and it only sharpens the team."
