Speaking to Fox Sports, Ravi Shastri admitted that Virat Kohli’s recent performances have been below his usual standards and suggested that technical issues in his footwork may be responsible for his dismissals.

“He (Virat Kohli) needs to find some form soon. The competition for places in India’s white-ball team is so intense that no one can relax — not even players like Kohli or Rohit Sharma,” said Shastri.

“He missed the mark again today; his footwork looked a bit shaky. This doesn’t happen often. He has an exceptional ODI record, so getting out for ducks twice in a row will be disappointing for him.”

Kohli’s Lean Patch in Australia

The tour of Australia has been far from ideal for the former captain.

• In Perth, Kohli was dismissed for 0 by Mitchell Starc.

• In Adelaide, he fell LBW to Xavier Bartlett for another duck.

This is the first time in Kohli’s ODI career that he has been dismissed for zero in two consecutive innings — an unusual statistic for one of the most consistent batters in modern cricket.

According to Shastri, Indian cricket is going through a transitional phase, and senior players can no longer take their places for granted. Rising stars like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, and Abhishek Sharma are putting pressure on established names.
