Odisha Law Minister Backs CBI Probe Into SI Recruitment Scam

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Thursday strongly backed the state government’s decision to go for a CBI investigation into the police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment scam.

A day after Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi recommended a CBI probe into the SI exam scandal, Harichandan said the state government is committed to ensuring transparency and fairness in recruitment examinations.

“The present government has been steadfast in its efforts to bring complete transparency to all recruitment examinations for the youth”, the Law Minister said.

He said a new law has already been introduced to impose stricter penalties on anyone attempting to undermine the integrity of these examinations.

Referring to the CM”s announcement on Wednesday, Harichandan noted that recruitment across various departments–including the police–had remained stagnant for nearly five years.

“Now, the government has launched a largescale recruitment drive to fill all existing vacancies, as well as positions needed for future development,” he said.

Stressing that the CM’s decision aims to ensure absolute transparency and restore public trust in the system, he said, “With these measures, I believe candidates will be able to appear for exams with full confidence.”

The Minister further stated that the long-standing practice of unscrupulous elements interfering in the process will gradually come to an end.
