Netflix boasts a vast library of gripping docuseries, spanning everything from true crime investigations to fascinating historical explorations. However, one devoted streaming fan reckons they've just discovered the platform's finest offering "in ages", and it might deserve a spot on your must-watch list.
Actor Alex Nicola shared his latest binge-worthy discovery on his @alexthefilmguy TikTok profile, sparking excitement amongst fellow viewers eager to dive in. In his enthusiastic review, Alex declared: "Netflix has done it again, they've dropped another amazing documentary series and this one got under my skin in a way I did not expect. I've only watched the first three episodes and I can already tell this is one of my favourite things they've put out in ages."
The Netflix programme is titled True Haunting, which Alex described as a "paranormal docuseries from James Wan [Executive Producer]".
Alex elaborated: "He is the director of The Conjuring and Saw. He hasn't actually directed any of the episodes but you can definitely feel his presence and his style. It's all over this, and that's what's making it feel super special."
Alex further revealed the series comprises five episodes covering two separate investigations, meaning "it doesn't feel bloated like a lot of these kind of shows normally do".
Despite his natural paranormal "scepticism", he confessed to being thoroughly "drawn in".
The opening investigation, entitled Eerie Hall, chronicles a university student who "starts to experience really weird things when he moves into his dorm". The telly enthusiast appreciates the "natural" feel of the interviews.
He elaborated: "There's no acting, you can feel the fear and trauma as they're telling their story and that's the clever thing about this. Even if you don't believe, you still sympathise with them."
He was equally captivated by the reenactments, describing it as a "cinematic horror disguised as a documentary", making it "interesting, absorbing and scary enough even if you think the rest of it is just baloney".
In the meantime, the second case, This House Murdered Me, narrates the tale of a family encountering peculiar occurrences whilst refurbishing their Victorian residence. Many viewers concurred with Alex, with one individual commenting: "I watched it all tonight. I'm currently in bed with the light on!!" Another chimed in: "Binged all five episodes last night. I need more!!!!!" and a third remarked: "I just started watching this earlier today, I'm only on the first episode and I'm hooked."
