Delhi CM attack case: First image of Rekha Gupta surfaces post-assault; granted 'Z' category VIP security

NEW DELHI: A day after she was attacked during a public hearing , Delhi CM Rekha Gupta met with all seven Delhi BJP MPs .

In a post on X, BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal shared the images of the meeting and said, "Today, I met with the popular Chief Minister of Delhi, Mrs. @gupta_rekha ji, along with all my fellow MPs from Delhi and inquired about her well-being. The Chief Minister is completely healthy and, as before, is continuously engaged with dedication in the work of the people of Delhi."

The assault took place on Wednesday morning around 8.15 am during a Jan Sunvai at Gupta’s Civil Lines camp office. Her office described it as part of a “well-planned conspiracy to kill her.” Police officials said the attack was serious and could have been life-threatening.

The accused was identified as 41-year-old Sakariya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai from Rajkot, Gujarat. He was detained immediately after the incident. According to police, Khimji has a criminal record and was previously booked in five cases, including a knife attack. Authorities said he had arrived in Delhi two days earlier, conducted reconnaissance near the Chief Minister’s residence and office, and was captured on CCTV footage in the area.

Delhi Police have registered an FIR under sections 109 (attempt to murder), 132 (assault on a public servant), and 221 (obstruction of public servant). He has been sent to five days of police remand and is being interrogated at the Civil Lines police station.

After the incident, Gupta issued a statement on X, calling the attack “not just an attack on me, but a cowardly attempt on our resolve to serve Delhi and work for the welfare of the public.”

She added, “Naturally, I was in shock after this attack, but I am now feeling better. I request all my well-wishers not to trouble themselves by visiting me. I will soon be seen working among you again.”

“Such attacks can never break my spirit or my commitment to serving the public. Now, I will be among you with even greater energy and dedication than before,” she added.
